Alexis Mitrushi is a music performer and educator based in Houston, TX. She is currently serving as a substitute violist for the New World Symphony. Alexis holds a Master's Degree in Viola Performance from Mannes School of Music in NYC, where she studied with Daniel Panner on a full scholarship. She completed her undergraduate studies at Oberlin Conservatory, graduating in just 3.5 years with a Bachelor's Degree in Viola Performance and a minor in GSFS, studying under Kirsten Docter.

Originally from Houston, Texas, Alexis began her musical journey at 12 with Teresa Han. She started piano lessons at the age of 8 and continued for about 9-10 years. Over the years, she has held prominent positions such as principal violist with the Oberlin Orchestra, Oberlin Chamber Orchestra, Oberlin Sinfonietta, Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, Mannes MACE ensemble, and Chautauqua Music Festival Orchestra. Her experience also includes being a substitute violist for the Firelands Symphony Orchestra and the Denver Philharmonic.

Recently, Alexis participated in the National Repertory Orchestra Music Festival as both a section violist and associate principal violist. In addition to her performance career, she has taught viola, violin, and piano across various communities. Her teaching experience includes working with the Oberlin Arts & Sciences Orchestra, Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra, Outschool.com, and Chautauqua Institution. In NYC, she taught at Anselmo Academy and City Strings and had a teaching position in Washington, D.C.

Alexis's passion for performing and teaching is evident in her belief that music is a profound means of self-expression. While in NYC, she played in a flute, viola, and harp trio called the Village Trio, which placed second in the Charleston Winter Music Competition. She also served as the librarian and violist for the Westside Chamber Players, a nonprofit, student-led chamber ensemble that performed throughout NYC and N.J.

Back in Houston, Alexis is enthusiastic about resuming her work with students. In her free time, she enjoys baking and watching Studio Ghibli movies.
