Dr. Lucy Rodriguez is a highly talented musician with extensive experience in entertaining live audiences in concert halls, musical theaters, and public schools. Her background includes many years of playing and conducting for live audiences in addition to private teaching. She has been performing on the violin, piano, and cello for over ten years and also teaches the viola.

Dr. Rodriguez holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of St. Thomas, as well as a Master of Arts in Instrumental Performance (concentration in Orchestral Conducting) and a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Her research includes philosophies pertaining to gender and women in the arts, the social construction of gender theory as it pertains to musical conducting, and gender issues surrounding the musical profession of conducting. Lucy has had the honor of studying with Dr. Ingrid Gerling, violinist for The Axiom Quartet; Dr. Glenn Garrido, Music Director of the Houston Latin Philharmonic; and Juilliard graduate violinist Ning Hsu. Lucy has held the role of Assistant Conductor for the University of St. Thomas Orchestra, and has had the privilege of serving as concert master during her undergraduate and graduate studies.

Her teaching philosophy can best be summarized by this quote from Dr. Rodriguez herself:

“As an instructor of music and conducting, my aim is to motivate students to learn, practice, and share their passion for music with others. This can only happen if they feel genuinely inspired by the improvement made within the school year and confident in their ability to learn more. To these ends, I practice and continually refine pedagogical strategies in order to help guide each student through their musical journey.”
