Drum, Guitar, Voice
Mikael Sundin has been passionate about music for as long as he can remember. He remembers singing along with the radio from a very young age, and began formal drum lessons at the age of 9. By the time he was 13, Mikael had already begun touring nationally as a drummer in his native homeland of Sweden.
Though he was still only a teenage, Mikael was determined to seek out the next step on his musical journey, and launched his personal mission to access the best education and instructors available. First, he earned entry to The Classical Music Conservatory in Falun, Sweden, where he studied classical percussion. He then enlisted in the National Royal Army Music Band of Sweden. His time serving in the Army music band led to the discovery of a small pamphlet about a famed music school in Los Angeles, California, US. This school was the Musicians Institute, where Mikael enrolled in 1989. He went on to study composition and arranging at the Grove School of Music in Van Nuys, CA.
For over 30 years now, Mikael has enjoyed a successful career as a professional performer, active in multiple metropolitan US cities. He has been teaching music full-time for over 25 years, and in 2002 he established a complete state-of-the-art teaching studio in Houston, TX, equipped with an audio/video recording wing. Mikael recognized early that he had a natural affinity for sharing his experience and knowledge with his students. He emphasizes a focus on the 'big picture' - a comprehensive, well-rounded musical education with the goal of ”making real musicians out of fans of music,” utilizing his Custom-Tailored Music Lesson approach .
Mikael’s teaching style is structured yet adaptable, and is student-centered, with a focus on helping each student to find his or her unique voice. Wherever you are in your path of progress, Mikael has experience teaching all ages and skill levels and is happy to help! You can focus on learning one instrument at a time, or choose a custom-tailored “palette" combining a variety of disciplines and approaches to improve overall musicianship.
