Trombone, Voice, Piano
Mr. Stephen Mason started music in the local church where he sang in graded children’s choirs. His love for music was encouraged as he sang in middle school and high school choirs in church. In middle school, along with choir, he was also encouraged by his parents to join the band program. He chose to play trombone, and was challenged in high school to begin a daily practice schedule in order to stay at the top of the trombone section, and participate in the marching band. During his senior year, he auditioned for drum major, and was chosen as a co drum major with another student. He was awarded the John Philip Sousa award for outstanding band member of the senior class at graduation.
Mr. Mason went on to Hardin-Simmons University where he majored in music, principled in trombone, and also took up piano and voice. He traveled with the wind ensemble and played in various parts of the country during his time at Hardin-Simmons University. While at this university, he also served as minister of music and youth at a small church in Loraine, Texas.
Mr. Mason went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Music degree. While at Southwestern, Mr. Mason sang with the Southwestern Oratorio Chorus under the direction of Dr. David Keith as they performed Handel’s Messiah along with full orchestra. Since Seminary, Mr. Mason has served as minister of music and youth in churches, and taught elementary music in private Christian schools.
