Crystal Anaya
Voice, Piano

Crystal Anaya has been immersed in the world of music for many years. She began singing in her elementary school choir and has not stopped singing since. In high school, she was her choir's president and went on to study music at San Jacinto College - Central Campus, where she decided that she would work to turn her passion into her career. From there, she transferred to the University of North Texas, where she earned her Bachelor's in Music Education with a concentration in Choral Studies.

Crystal has performed with a number of different choirs around Texas including the TMEA All-Region Mixed Choir, the South Western ACDA Honor Choir, the AFA Houston Choirs and the UNT and San Jacinto College Choirs. As well as singing with the AFA Houston Choirs, she came back to work for AFA as an intern, getting to learn all about the 'behind the scenes' action required to make a music conservatory work.

Crystal has had many opportunities to work with music students of all ages. She is K-12 certified and has taught classes at the UNT Early Childhood Music Program, working with children ages 0-5. While earning her degree, she also taught private voice lessons at Calhoun Middle School in Denton, TX, and led UNT's Sight Singing ABC's classes, giving her a chance to teach sight singing to students ages 18 and up. A proficient piano player, Crystal fine-tuned her skills while at UNT, and now teaches piano lessons to beginners of all ages. She has also had the opportunity of being a music theory tutor at San Jacinto College, as well as participating as a Pre-UIL Sight Singing judge for high schools in Denton.

In 2015, Crystal had the incredibly rewarding experience of going to Hungary to study and gain a greater understanding of the Kodaly method, a teaching method used by elementary music teachers throughout Texas. Crystal was able to focus on her studies and improve her teaching methods by being the recipient of the Terry Scholarship and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Scholarship.

More than anything, Crystal is excited to keep teaching what she loves!
