Raven Johnson
Voice, Piano

A native of Monrovia, CA, Raven Johnson has been passionate about music her entire life. She began singing at the age of 3 at her father's church, and began learning piano at the age of 7. She continued piano lessons throughout her adolescence in addition to singing in the children's and youth choirs, where she was blessed to win the Quaker Oats Gospel Fest competition, taking home the prize of $17,500. She continued her choral and musical theater training throughout high school, placing in the top 3 in several competitions.

Raven began her formal education at Spelman College, where she majored in Voice and participated in Spelman's highly acclaimed Glee Club, to which she attributes her love, passion, and development in music theory. She completed her undergraduate studies at Azusa Pacific University, graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.

Upon completion of her studies, a chance encounter provided Raven with the opportunity to sing background vocals on a European tour with Tito Jackson of the Jackson 5. This was a launching pad for Raven's career, as she went on to sing and travel with many notable secular and gospel artists. She has since had the opportunity to be featured on a number of projects, not only as a background vocalist, but as both vocal producer & arranger.

In addition to performing and teaching, Raven has also served as a worship leader for more than 15 years and is currently in post-production for completion of her very first worship album, a live recording, which she plans to release in the very near future.

Raven is extremely passionate about all things music. She wants each of her students to understand that when it comes to your craft, it's not about perfection, but excellence; within your own skill set, practice does not make perfect, but it does make progress. Being able to instill these principles in her students, while creating a fun and engaging learning environment, brings her great joy.

Raven believes in providing an experience that is tailor-made for each individual student's personality and learning style, and will never rush the process for the sake of counting something done. From her oldest students in their 60s to her youngest student at age 4, Raven has proven to be adaptable, engaging and a joy to experience the gift of music with. Book your lesson with her today!
